Barrington High School's top singles player, James Bogdanovic will play in the RIIL Boys Tennis Singles Championship finals next weekend.
Bogdanovic, who was one of four Barrington singles players to compete in the individual state tournament, won two 3-set thrillers en route to the finals.
In the quarterfinals, Bogdanovic, a sophomore, defeated Bishop Hendricken's Henri Syman 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, and in the semifinals, the Eagles' netter defeated Wheeler's Ross Cornelissen, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Bogdanovic will face the tournament's top seed and defending state champ — Classical's Max Schmidhauser, who won two straight set matches to reach the finals.
Schmidhauser defeated Bogdanovic's teammate from Barrington High School, Eric Zhang, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals.
In the doubles' bracket, it was nearly an all-Barrington final.
Barrington's second team of Alex Caizzi and Lucas Johnson defeated Wheeler's Justin Emanuel and Harry Mazurkie 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, in one semifinal match, while Barrington's top doubles team of Brian Donahue and Connor Kelly fell to the Hendricken duo of Nathan Palumbo and Will Healey in the other semifinal match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
The state individual tournament finals for the singles' bracket and doubles' bracket will be played on Sunday at noon at Slater Park in Pawtucket.
