The Barrington High School girls soccer team trailed Mt. Hope 2-1 at halftime of a league game last Thursday, but exploded for three second-half goals and captured a 4-2 victory. 

The win was Barrington’s first of the season and moved the Eagles’ record to 1-1-1. 

Barrington actually opened the scoring in the game against Mt. Hope, but the Huskies then scored the next two goals in the first half and entered the break on top, 2-1. 

The Eagles rallied however, earning the praise of their coach, Martyn Hollands. 

“Again, another strong second half performance saw us come back for a deserved win,” Hollands wrote in a message to the Barrington Times.

Olivia Morrissette finished the game with two goals for Barrington, while Bailey Duncan and Estela Uddin-Alves tallied goals also. Barrington senior Maddie Gill made a number of key saves in net. 

The victory followed a tough 4-1 loss to Chariho on Tuesday, Sept. 19. 

“The result doesn’t reflect how well the team played, particularly in the second half,” Hollands wrote. 

Barrington fell behind 3-0, but played inspired soccer in the second half. Morrissette scored a goal to narrow the gap to 3-1. The Eagles continued to press and created a number of scoring chances, but could not capitalize on the opportunities. 

Chariho’s final goal came on the last kick of the game. 

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Pilgrim High School.
