The Barrington High School girls basketball team went 2-0 in the Notre Dame Fairfield Holiday Tournament last week.
The Eagles opened the tournament with a 50-45 win over defending Connecticut Class S State Champions, Thomaston, 50-45, in the first game, and beat defending Connecticut Class L State Champions, Notre Dame Fairfield, 50-39, in the second game.
• Game 1: Down by nine points with five minutes to play, Barrington went on a 16-2 run to knock off Thomaston. The Eagles secured the win behind Maddie Gill’s game-high 21 points and Lindsey Lemay’s 15 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Morrissette chipped in with eight points for the Eagles. Kerry Decker led Thomaston with 20 points.
• Game 2: Trailing by seven points at halftime, Barrington battled back to defeat host Notre Dame Fairfield. Gill, a junior guard for Barrington, led the Eagles with 15 points while Janaya Prince Baquero finished with 11 points and five assists, and Lemay added eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Molly McLaughlin led Notre Dame with 16 points.
Gill was also selected as the Providence Journal’s Girls Basketball Player of the Week last week.
