EAST PROVIDENCE — Seth Daly and Nathan Silveira combined for the shutout on the mound for the East Providence High School baseball team as the Townies handed first place South Kingstown just its second loss of the Division I season, 2-0, Thursday afternoon, May 18, at Pierce Field.
Daly went the first six innings for the Townies, who improved to 6-9 in the league standings. Silveira then added a scoreless seventh for the save, helping to snap E.P.'s recent two-game losing streak.
Just as important, the Townies were able to leap frog East Greenwich (5-10) in the race for one of the final spots into the upcoming state championship playoffs. The Townies recently lost to the Avengers, giving E.G. the tiebreaker advantage between the teams.
The Rebels saw their record drop to to 13-2. S.K. remains a game ahead of Cranston East and LaSalle at the top of the D-I ranks.
East Providence is back in action Saturday afternoon, May 20, when the Townies travel to North Providence. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
