EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School girls' basketball team opened up its 2015-16 Division II regular season schedule Tuesday night, Dec. 15, with a 42-37 victory over visiting Rogers.

Senior guard Angela Leonardo had 12 points for the Townies to share team-high honors with sophomore Courtney Dorr, who also netted a dozen in the first significant varsity action of her young career. Sophomore Shaniah Hazard added nine points.

The Townies rallied from a four-point halftime deficit by out-scoring the Vikings, 26-17, in the closing 16 minutes.

"The team has to be able to play on both sides of the floor. We did some really nice things defensively, but offensively we are going to have to continue to work," EPHS head coach Mike Solitro said of the Townies' performance in the opener. "I was, however, excited to see some growth and maturity under the four minute mark which helped us preserve the victory."

East Providence takes to the road for its next contest Friday night, Dec. 18, in Tiverton. Tip time is 7 p.m.
