NEWPORT — The streak is indeed...OVER!
The East Providence High School golf team, which had lost its previous 24 Eastern Division matches spanning the last two years, opened up league play with a sweep of Tiverton and host Rogers Monday afternoon, April 25, at Newport Country Club.
The Townies (2-0) finished with a team total of 207. Tiverton finished with a 218 and Rogers 225. Freshman Isabelle Wetmore led East Providence with a 49 in her first-ever high school match.
"The kids were excited. The streak is over. Now we start a new streak, a winning streak," said EPHS head coach Bill McEnery.
The Townies were slated to host Barrington and Mt. Hope Tuesday, April 26, at Metacomet Country Club.
