EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School boys' soccer team opened up its Division I regular season Friday afternoon, Sept 9, at home on the Townies' new turf field with a 2-0 victory over Central Falls.

John Caleb Kaufmann and Nathan Bento accounted for the East Providence goals. Leandro Alves assisted on Kaufmann's tally.

Senior keeper and co-captain Nathan Oliveira posted the clean sheet in the Townies' net on eight saves.

East Providence scored both of its goals in the second half, including an insurance tally in the closing minutes of the game. The Townies had the better of the possession throughout and likewise controlled play in the middle third of the field led by the efforts of Dan Forsythe among others.

"We were good defensively. Our shape was good. We struggled in the first half to create chances, but we were better in the final third and created more chances and it lead to two goals," said EPHS head coach Tony Vieira.

The game also marked the first played at the complex with the new scoreboard operational on the school grounds. The device, donated in part by the Friends of Townie Athletic Organization, was installed by city company Dexter Sign.
