NORTH SCITUATE — The East Providence High School girls' volleyball team completed its 2015 Division I-North regular season schedule with a noteworthy shutout victory over host Ponaganset Wednesday night, Nov. 4.

The Townies, losers of four of their last six outings heading into the night, and Chieftains entered the contest tied for fourth place in the league standings with 8-9 records. The upped E.P.'s mark to 9-9 while Ponaganset fell to 8-10.

The Townies were pretty much in command the entire match, winning the opening game by a 25-13 count. The Chieftains pushed E.P. a bit harder in the second, but the locals still managed a 28-26 win. The Townies then closed out the match with a decisive 25-12 victory in Game 3.

The hitting duo of Jayla Semedo and Emma Drolet once again led the locals. Semedo had nine kills and three blocks while Drolet added six kills, four blocks and 16 digs.

E.P. now awaits the results of the final night of the regular season to know its playoff fate. Ten teams qualify for the Division I state championship tournament. According to Townies' head coach Alex Butler, if LaSalle (8-9) loses to first-place Mount St. Charles (13-4) tonight, November 5, E.P. will finish third and play Coventry, the second place team out of the I-South subgroup (14-3) in the quarterfinals on a date to be determined. If LaSalle wins, the Townies finish fourth and will play host to South Kingstown (4-12, fifth in I-South) Friday night, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in a preliminary round game.
