East Providence's Ponte raises money while running Boston

Posted

BOSTON — Rain, strong headwinds and chilly 40-degree temperatures didn’t stop East Providence resident John Ponte, 43, from completing his second Boston Marathon on April 20.

Mr. Ponte ran the marathon in support of the Joe Andruzzi Foundation to raise awareness and money for cancer patients and their families who face financial hardship while undergoing treatment.

Despite the tough conditions, Mr. Ponte finished the marathon, setting a personal best by shaving 21 minutes off of his time last year. Mr. Ponte also raised $14,000 for JAF. The money raised will go towards grants to assist cancer patients in financial need so that they can focus on treatment and recovery. Those financial grants typically help with expenses such as mortgage and rent payments, utility bills, groceries, gas and other expenditures.

Donations are still being accepted to Mr. Ponte’s campaign. To make a donation, visit: www.crowdrise.com/JAFBoston2015/fundraiser/johnponte and click the Yellow Donate button.

Checks and money orders, made out to: Joe Andruzzi Foundation, can also be mailed. For the mailing address or any other questions email johnponte401@gmail.com.
