Edward J. Rinaldi Jr. died on April 24, 2018, in Nashua N.H., where he lived with his daughter, Elenore, her husband Christian Samuelson, and their son Matthew.  Edward was born on Oct. 10, 1939, to Edward J. and Harriet (Carroll) Rinaldi and grew up in Bristol, where he went to St. Mary’s School, graduated from Colt High School, and served in the Bristol unit of the Rhode Island Army National Guard. 

Ed’s mother was president of St. Mary’s Mothers’ Club and of the Bristol Community Concert Association. His father was a school administrator and teacher of Latin and Ancient History at the Guiteras School before being named Headmaster of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal School in Providence. His grandfather, Saverio Rinaldi, was one of the founders of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in 1899 and of the annual Mount Carmel Feast. 

Like his father (Class of ’29), Ed graduated from Providence College (Class of ’62). After moving to the Washington, D.C. area, Ed received his M.A. from George Washington University and later served in senior administrative positions for the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the Department of the Army. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Virginia (Corcoran) Rinaldi.

In addition to his daughter, he is survived by his son, Jonathan, and family in Japan, and his sisters, Harriette and Carrolle in Warwick. The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 14, at St. Mary’s Church, followed later by a private burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bristol.
