Elderly Barrington man facing child molestation charge
Alleged incidents occurred in late 1980s, early 90s
On Wednesday, March 30, Barrington police charged Albert L. Chapman, 81, of 14 Chapman Lane, Barrington, with first degree child molestation and second degree child abuse.
The charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The alleged victim — he is related to Mr. Chapman — brought information to the police in Jan. 2015, and detectives worked for months on the case. Eventually detectives brought the information to a grand jury, which reportedly determined there was enough evidence to charge Mr. Chapman.
Police said the victim used to visit Mr. Chapman's residence years ago, when the alleged incidents took place. The alleged victim lives out of state, which slowed down the investigation, said police.
