Shortly after 10 a.m., Portsmouth Police responded to the intersection of East Main Road at McCorrie Lane for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries, according to Detective Lt. Michael C. Arnold.

They found two vehicles in the roadway. One driven by the Plymouth woman had been traveling southbound on East Main Road when it collided with another vehicle driven by a 58-year-old Portsmouth woman, Lt. Arnold said.

“All parties involved were taken to a nearby hospital due to the accident, where the 79-year-old woman later succumbed to her injuries,” he stated in a press release.

Traffic on East Main Road was diverted for over an hour with the assistance of Middletown Police.
