Ellsworth: Schools need to spend more effectively and eliminate waste

Posted

I have children in the district and a background in Finance. For the past five years I have been reviewing the District’s audited financials. The BWRSD requested $56.5 million for this school year, however based on past audited financials, our district underspent by an estimated $1.5 million. I have asked many questions but rarely received straightforward answers.

We should have the money we need to provide the best education for our children. We don’t need to raise taxes, we need to spend more effectively and eliminate wasteful spending. We need to listen to our teachers whom we have entrusted to teach our children before money is spent on programs and technology that does not align with our children’s educational achievement.

If elected, I will bring transparency to our taxpayers and have measurable goals for our schools, district and administration. I will bring a balance between educational success and financial responsibility.

Sheila Ellsworth

Ms. Ellsworth is a candidate for Bristol Warren school committee.
