Ema da Conceicao Medeiros of Bristol

Ema da Conceicao (Alves) Medeiros, of Michael Drive, passed away on Jan. 6, 2018, at Silver Creek Manor.  She was the wife of the late Manuel Carreiro Medeiros.   

Born in Pico da Pedra, Sao Miguel Acores, she was the daughter of the late Guilherme Luis Alves and Ermelinda dos Prazeres (Casemiro) Alves.

She is survived by her children, Maria Margarida Rodrigues and her husband Humberto, Emily Ferreira and her husband Armando; ad daughter-in-law Fatima (Costa) Medeiros; grandchildren, Richard Rodrigues, Nicole Gomes and her husband Keith, Luis Jared Medeiros and his wife Kelly, Alexandre Ferreira, Abigail Ferreria and great-grandchildren, Jared Medeiros, Keith Gomes and Kaelyn Gomes. She was the mother of the late Luis Medeiros and sister of the late Maria Teresa DaPonte, Maria Augusta Labao and Manuel Luis Alves.

Ema was an assembler for PF Industries and Converse for 20 years before retiring.  

Her funeral services were held Jan. 11 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Luis Garcia Dutra at St. Elizabeth’s Church. The liturgical readings were by Kelly Medeiros, who also read the Prayer of the Faithful. The offertory gifts were presented by Emily Ferreira and Margaret Rodrigues.

Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Richard Rodrigues, Louis Medeiros, Alex Ferreira, Jared Medeiros, Keith Gomes Jr. and Keith Gomes Sr.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
