'Fakes and Forgeries' opening in Newport

Posted

Spring Bull Gallery’s Annual Fakes & Forgeries will open with a fun-filled reception this Saturday. From its conception over 24 years ago, artists have been invited to submit serious "copies" or tongue-in-cheek humorous interpretation of known art work (such as The Scream by Edwin Roche after Edvard Munch, pictured) in two and three dimensional form, to this exhibition. This February exhibit has grown to be a much anticipated area event for both artists and art appreciators alike. The artists study and learn techniques used by the old and modern masters while the public has a chance to enjoy (and perhaps own) an “almost masterpiece.”

WHERE: Spring Bull Gallery, 55 Bellevue Ave., Newport

WHEN: Opening Saturday, Feb. 6; 5 to 7 p.m.; show runs through Feb 28

COST: Free

Meet our staff
Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
