February vacation fun at Providence Children's Museum

Get ready for a week full of fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories at Providence Children’s Museum (PCM) during the February school vacation. The museum will have extended hours as well as an extensive schedule of activities during the February break. Special activities start on Saturday, Feb. 17, with the museum open every day between the 17th and 24th to bring play and joy throughout the week.

To kick off the week, on the 17th the Society of Women Engineers will be exploring the five kinds of engineering with PCM visitors.
 
Mad Science of Southern MA & RI will have two shows all about the fundamentals of moving science with Newton’s Laws of Motion on the 19th at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
 
Rock-a-Baby will give a special musical performance on Tuesday the 20th at 2:00 pm. This crowd-pleasing & joyful singalong will include lots of dancing and merriment for the whole family!
 
On Thursday the 22nd at 10:30 am, The Stupendous Mr. Magichead will perform a wacky and silly magic show that is sure to keep the laughs coming for the whole family.
 
On Friday the 23rd, attendees will have the honor of experiencing a special reading session by the multi-talented actor and now esteemed children's book author, Karyn Parsons. Widely recognized for her role as Hilary Banks on the hit TV series "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," Parsons has ventured into the world of children's literature with her captivating storytelling. Families attending Read & Play Every Day can look forward to a free children's book, reading sessions from local authors, and learning-focused activities provided by Reach Out and Read Rhode Island.
 
On Saturday the 24th, PCM will celebrate Black History Month with two wonderful stories performed by Raffini of the RI Black Storytellers.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
