Fireworks and picnic Saturday night in Portsmouth

New Park Avenue Picnic includes music, food, family fun — and Saturday night fireworks

Posted

Residents in Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton, Fall River and beyond will be treated to a bonus fireworks display this year, with the first-ever Park Avenue Picnic and fireworks show, hosted on the lawn at Thrive Coffee House on Saturday night.

The new, family-friendly event begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, and features music by the band Diesel, a barbecue, arts and crafts, and the fireworks show at dark.

The Island Park Preservation Society is organizing the picnic/show and is hoping for a large turnout.

They have received all permits, and the same company that launches Bristol’s July 3 fireworks display will be coordinating the Island Park show.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
