Julia Soares started 15 games for Gettysburg College

Barrington native and Gettysburg College sophomore Julia Soares was recently named All-Centennial Conference Second Team for field hockey.

Julia is a midfielder for Gettysburg and backed up a solid debut campaign with a strong sophomore effort. She started all 15 games that she played in, and finished second on the team in goals (4), points (9), and shots (39). The sophomore tallied a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over Alvernia University. 

Through two seasons at Gettysburg, Soares has accounted for six goals and four assists in 28 career games.

Gettysburg finished 7-9 this season and 5-5 in conference.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
