Four car thefts in two days prompts Warren PD to investigate

Posted

The Warren Police Department is reminding residents to keep their cars locked and secured following four car thefts that occurred within two days this past week.

“In all cases, the keys were left in the vehicle and doors unlocked,” said Lt. Christopher Perreault regarding the thefts. Other reports indicated that cars had been rummaged through, which Perreault said usually happens to cars that are left unlocked.

One of the thefts was reported on the morning of Sunday, July 9, following an incident where the stolen car — taken in the early morning hours when the owner was asleep — was subsequently pursued by police in Pawtucket, resulting in a crash and the operator fleeing and evading police on foot. Police found the license plates did not match the registration for the car, and contacted the owner, who then reported it stolen.

The other three vehicles have not been found at this time, according to Lt. Perreault, who requested that Warren residents be extra vigilant about their vehicles moving forward.

“We’re asking for people in town to be vigilant, secure their vehicles, don’t leave any items in the open, and if anyone has any information or video that they believe the Warren Police might want to view, reach out to us,” he said.

Perreault couldn’t provide more information as the investigation is ongoing, but said that police were looking into possible connections with organized crime.

“At this time, the vehicle thefts are being investigated collectively as we believe they may be linked to other organized theft of vehicles outside our jurisdiction,” he wrote in an email. “However, at this time, we do not have any suspects.”

A couple of bicycle thefts that also occurred last week were thought to be a coincidence, according to Perreault.
