Frances E. (Terra) Cook

Mrs. Frances E. (Terra) Cook, age 76 of Highland Road, Bristol, died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Rhode Island Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Roland H. Cook, her husband of 56 years who died in 2014. Born in Providence and a lifelong Bristol resident, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Isabelle (West) Terra.  Frances was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol, Class of 1957 and was the co-owner/operator, along with her late husband of Cook’s Overhead Doors of Bristol for many years, retiring in 2008. She had previously been a bookkeeper for G. W. Dahl Co. and the Robin Rug Co. both formerly in Bristol. She was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Bristol, where she was a former member of the Vestry and a Sunday School Teacher. Frances was well known for her expert Rug Hooking and Needle Point and was featured in the Rug Hooking Magazine for her exceptional artistry.  She also enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking, gardening and her monthly dinner outings with her girlfriends. Frances’ favorite past time was spending time at the beach enjoying the water. She is survived by three children; Christopher Cook (Karen), Scott T. Cook, both of Bristol and Amy E. Cook-Fitzgerald of Portsmouth, five grandchildren; Ashley E. and Benjamin A. Cook, James A. Cook, II, Ella F. and Jack Fitzgerald and two step-grandchildren, Meghan and Katarina, two sisters, Anne Jane Melberg of Mercer Island, WA, Susan L. Austin of Bristol and a brother, James H. Terra of Coventry.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James A. “Jimmy” Cook, and a brother, Robert G. Terra.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours, Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol. Funeral services and burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Animal Shelter, Minturn Farm Road or the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O.
