Francis Joseph Nunes, 81, of 208 Howland Ave, Middletown, was called to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 at Silver Creek Manor in Bristol. He was the husband of Alberta C (Borek) Nunes.
Francis was born Feb. 12, 1935 in his house in Middletown, a son of the late Octavio Salvadore and Rose (Dutra) Nunes. He was the former owner of Howland Farm. Farming brought great joy to his world, especially when he was driving his tractors and watching the spring’s new calves. Francis was always quick with a smile and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He worked as the service manager for Chaves Oil and then Buckley. It was well known that Francis was an excellent mechanic, and was sought after by many other oil companies because of his aptitude to fix problems that no else was able to solve.
Besides his devoted wife of 53 years, he is survived by his children, Kathleen C Nunes, William F Nunes, Kimberly C Nunes, her husband Scott Roth, all of Bristol; his sister, Laura Murphy of Middletown; and his grandsons, Zachary W Gustafson and Jeremy R Gustafson. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. Mr. Nunes was the brother of the late Mary A Jacome, John J Nunes, and Rose A Makeover.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 4-7p.m., at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. The funeral is Thursday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. at St Barnabas Church, 1679 E Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a Christian Burial at St. Jeans Cemetery, Warren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Front Line Ministry for Freedom, 20 Peckham Place, Bristol, RI 02809-2715.
