Posted

Francis “Tut” Jamiel died Monday, June 6, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Jayne (Conley) Jamiel.

Mr. Jamiel was the son of Lily (Zacca) Jamiel and the late Joseph Jamiel, of Warren. He was the former owner of Jamiel’s Shoe World in Warren. More than just a job to him, Francis truly loved serving the generations of customers that he considered family.

He was a lifelong Warren resident and a parishioner of St. Jean Baptiste Church. A 1977 graduate of Brown University, he loved the sport of football and was a member of the Brown University Hall of Fame, Warren Athletic Hall of Fame and the Rhode Island Gridiron Hall of Fame for his accomplishments. An avid spinner, he made many friends in his early morning classes. He loved to eat oysters on the half shell and listen to reggae music. He leaves behind a legacy with family and friends as being the life of the party and truly unforgettable.

Besides his wife, he leaves his daughters, Michaela Dziedzic and her husband Jason, Elizabeth Jamiel and her fiancé Alex Beigel, Alexandra Jamiel and Victoria Jamiel. He is also survived by his brothers Nicholas, Joseph, Douglas and the late Geoffrey Jamiel; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 13 from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Vernon Street. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Sunday, June 12 from 2 to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brown University Football Association.

Most importantly and in his memory, “Stand Tall. Shine Bright.”

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
