The air has turned colder and the days are shorter, but popular farmers' markets continue throughout the region. Here is a quick recap of opportunities for fresh food and goods:

Fresh and local, farmers' markets move indoors

The air has turned colder and the days are shorter, but popular farmers' markets continue throughout the region. Here is a quick primer of opportunities for fresh food and goods:

Saturdays

  • The Mount Hope Farmers' Market takes place every Saturday, now inside the historic barn, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Learn more here.
  • The Providence Farmers Market is every Saturday at the Farm Fresh Rhode Island location at 10 Sims Ave. It takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn more here.
  • The Aquidneck Growers Market takes place at Stone Acre Garden, 151 Swinburne Row, Newport, on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Learn more here.

Sundays

  • The Tiverton Farmers Market takes place Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., inside the cafeteria at Tiverton Middle School, 10 Quintal Drive. Learn more here.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
