It was a meaningful victory for a couple of reasons for the East Providence High School girls' basketball team as the Townies edged out visiting St. Raphael 32-28 in a Division I contest played in city Friday night, Jan. 5.
Foremost for the locals, the win was the first in the 2023-24 regular season for East Providence in league play. Slightly less significant, though meaningful on a different level, was the Townies giving their first-year head coach Tammy Drape a victory against the Saints, whom she coached for the last several winters before coming to East Providence in time for the current campaign.
