EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School girls' soccer team collected its second win of the season Friday afternoon, Oct. 12, with a 4-0 shutout of visiting St. Raphael in a Division II outing.
Freshman Olivia Williams struck for a pair of goals, one in each half, as the Townies improved to 2-7-3 (9 points) in the league standings. Williams is E.P.'s leading goal scorer with five.
Ashley Dias and Aaliyah Pattie accounted for the other goals. Alyssa DeOliveira had two assists and keeper Mia Jackson was credited with two saves.
Pattie's goal off a free ball deep in the Saints' zone in the first minute of the game proved to be deciding tally. Williams followed, neatly finishing a full-field cross from DeOliveira. Dias made it 3-0 Townies late in the first half.
The victory was a much-needed one for the locals as they attempt to keep their faint playoff hopes alive. East Providence needs 10 points (3 for a win, 1 for a tie) from its final four games to reach the minimum number of 19 total to qualify for the postseason. The Townie next play in Warwick at the Bend Street Complex against host Toll Gate Monday night, Oct. 15, at 7 o'clock.
