Letter: Goodness was in abundance when community helped Bristol family

A beautiful example of neighbor helping neighbor, friends helping friends and strangers gathering to help a fellow human being in legitimate need of love and support took place on Wendy Drive in Bristol Sunday afternoon. There are good people and good things happening out there, and the public should know that and take heart of the good news.

Sherry and Jacob Ledsworth, along with other neighbors and friends, organized a block party on Wendy Drive to raise money to help defray the significant medical costs being incurred by their friend and neighbor, Joe Sousa, as he and his large family battle a life-threatening medical illness.

Hamburgers were cooked on the grill, plenty of various food plates were prepared by volunteers, dozens of various raffle items were donated by concerned friends and strangers, a bouncy house was put up for the very popular entertainment of the children, beverage concessions were set up, donations were made and more. Based on the constant stream of people attending , the large turnout proved the event was an impressive success.

I am sure that Joe and his family were touched by the show of concern, love and support and most grateful to the Ledsworths and their other neighbors and friends who took the initiative to organize this event and who worked so hard to make it the success it clearly was.

Who is Joe Sousa? He is a man who epitomizes what it means to be selfless and caring. Joe and his wife, Angela, have three biological children and three adopted children and are close to completing adoption proceedings for a fourth child. In addition, Joe and Angela have fostered dozens of other children. They are not independently wealthy. They have accomplished these acts of love, kindness and extraordinary generosity at considerable but welcomed sacrifice.

Yup – there are some very nice people in our little town of Bristol – thoughtful, kind, considerate, generous and caring. They were in abundance last Sunday on Wendy Drive.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help with what promises to be considerable medical costs and expenses. Anyone wishing to make a donation to this exceptional family and most worthwhile cause can do so by copying and pasting the following site to your browser:  gf.me/u/dkmfw4.
