A Barrington woman's gesture of thanks was snatched up by a thief last week.

A woman who lives on Payne Road near Barrington Beach tried to share the holiday spirit with the men who collect her trash and recycling each week, by leaving some cash and two six-packs of beer near her recycling bins on Wednesday morning, Dec. 16.

The gifts — included was $120 in cash — were intended for the men who work for Mega Disposal, LTD., who regularly pick up trash and recycling left out by Barrington residents.

The woman placed the items curbside early on Dec. 16 and when she checked on them a short while later she discovered that while the trash and recycling were still there, the cash and beer were gone.

The local woman called police at about 8:15 a.m. and reported the crime. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police department's confidential tip line at 437-3933.
