Rhode Island Resource Recovery has a Hazardous Household Waste collection planned for Saturday, April 27, at Tiverton’s Department of Public Works from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. A reservation is required. Household hazardous waste is anything labeled with a skull and crossbones, or words like “toxic,” "poison," "flammable," “combustible,” etc. coming from a household. Most homes have a fair number of such products stored in the garage, basement, shed, bathroom, and kitchen.
“Have burnt out fluorescent tube lighting and/or mercury-containing compact fluorescent bulbs? Old paint, varnish or wood preservative cans? Oven cleaner? Gasoline or oil? Nail polish remover? Load up your vehicle, drop off in Tiverton, and drive home knowing you’ve done a good deed for the environment,” said Abigail Brooks, president of the Sakonnet Preservation Association.
