Helen Oser Miller, born in Boston to immigrant parents, was raised in a cold-water flat in a Boston coal yard, learned the joys of singing and acting in public schools and modeled at Jordan Marsh. Helen would be offered a Hollywood studio contract in the 1940s but chose a private, family life.
Helen would marry Boston lawyer David Miller. Together with their children they would live in Boston, Bristol, RI, Palm Beach, Fla., and San Antonio, Tex. Although their homes were the scenes of visits with actors, politicians and business leaders, Helen most enjoyed her time with family and friends.
David would become a premier community developer in eight states during the 1940s-60s and was offered an ambassadorship by LBJ. Helen became a known hostess and contributor to charitable organizations. Three children, Robin Holbrook and Brant Miller of San Antonio and Jay Miller of San Antonio and Little Compton, survive as well as an extended family.
Helen passed away January 30 at the age of 93 in Little Compton, RI. A memorial will be held in San Antonio and later in Little Compton. Please remember Aphasia research, veterans’ needs and police families for charitable gift-giving.
