Hurbon R. Fitta Jr., 76, Warren

Hurbon R. “Sonny” Fitta Jr., 76, of Warren, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital. Mr. Fitta was the companion of Anne Fortin of Warren.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Hurbon R. and Angelina (Silva) Fitta Sr., he was a construction worker for the Charles Fisher Construction Company. He had lived in Warren for more than 26 years, coming from Fall River.

Besides his companion, Mr. Fitta leaves his daughter, Cheryl Cote of Fall River, MA.; a brother, Robert Fitta of Jacksonville, N.C.,; a step-brother, Joseph Binetti of Dartmouth, Ma.; and a stepsister, Carol Binetti of North Carolina. He was a brother of the late Dorothy DeMello.

Funeral services for Mr. Fitta will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Smith Funeral, Memorial and Cremation Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
