Huskies football dominates Coventry 25-6
Mt. Hope improves to 2-0 on the season
The Mt. Hope Huskies football team dominated Coventry High School 25-6 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Quarterback Vincent Berretto led the Huskies attack, finding the endzone four times — twice through the air and twice on the ground. Berretto piled up more than 300 all-purpose yards, connecting for 176 yards on 12-17 passing. He was also the team's leading rusher, chewing up 118 yards on the ground.
Berretto connected with receivers Joshua Pompey and Macwell Moskala on touchdown passes, and running back Corey Cardoso add 71 yards rushing.
Mt. Hope's defense held the Oakers to just 121 total yards. Coventry lined up in a bunch formation most of the game, and Mt. Hope's run defense stopped the rushing attack again and again, allowing only one significant drive to open the second half, when the Oakers scored its only points. The Huskies pass defense held Coventry quarterback Michael Abbruzzesse to just 6-18 passing, and tallied two interceptions.
