Irene D. (Cabral ) Howard, 94, of Warren, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 at home. She was the wife of the late Francis Howard and the late Alfred Bruno.

Irene was born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Manuel Cabral.

A homemaker, she lived in Warren for six years, coming from Providence, and was a former parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church in Pawtucket.

Irene leaves her daughter, Darlene Bessette and her husband Alan of Warren. She was the grandmother of Donna Duarte and her husband Moses Sr. of Warren; and the great-grandmother of Devon, Dylan, Moses Jr., Briana and Ashlee.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, with a mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
