Irene Marie Quintal, 89, Bristol

Irene Marie (Medeiros) Quintal, 89, of Narrows Road, passed away on May 26, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late Manuel Peter Quintal.  

Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Joaquim and Bertha (Pacheco) Medeiros. She is survived by her son, Peter Quintal and his wife Joyce, and was the mother of the late Mark Quintal. She was the grandmother of Heather Quintal and Peter John Quintal, and great grandmother of Maia Pereira, Talylon Quintal, Alexandria Quintal, Dalton Niles and Christopher “CJ” Braz. She was the sister of Julie Cooper and the late Delia Cabral, Manuel Medeiros, Anthony Medeiros, John Medeiros, Bertha Reynolds, Louis Medeiros, Joaquim Medeiros and Florence Andreozzi. 

Mrs. Quintal was educated in Bristol and employed at Premier Thread for 18 years before retiring. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was an avid Bingo player.

Her funeral services were held June 1 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Richard Narciso at St. Elizabeth’s Church. The offertory gifts were presented by Heather Quintal and Peter Quintal. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jeffery Reynolds, Frank Correia, George Correia, Ronald Medeiros, Ronald Greenwood and Edward Guida.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
