PORTSMOUTH — Are you ready for the Fourth?

Escobar’s Highland Farm on Middle Road hosts its annual fireworks display starting at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, July 4.

The show is expected to last 20 to 30 minutes and will be visible from neighborhoods and side streets near the farm.

Police will close Middle Road to traffic during the display.

If you’d like to donate to help pay for the fireworks, there’s a milk can outside the farm at 133 Middle Road.

The fireworks display isn’t the only patriotic event taking place that day.

Citizens of all ages are invited to participate in the third annual public reading of the Declaration of Independence at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 4, on the grounds of the Portsmouth Free Public Library, 2658 East Main Road.

Each person who attends is invited to read a marked section of the founding document. Copies will be available at no charge.

In the event of rain, the event will be held in the library’s program room.

For information contact Anne Wagner, organizer, at 683-3272.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
