Janet Peterson Williams Gruenwald, 95, of Bristol, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 at Miriam Hospital in Providence.

Janet was born in Pawtucket, RI on Dec. 31, 1923, a daughter of the late Dorothy Kenyon Peterson and Carl Peterson. She was the wife of the late F. Crawford Williams and the late Raymond Gruenwald.

In her younger years Janet summered in Bristol before moving there full-time 34 years ago.

An active member of The First Congregational Church in Bristol, where she also served as a Deacon, she was also active in Meals on Wheels, ECHO and many other organizations. She loved animals, especially dogs and birds, and also loved to garden and bake for her loved ones. Her last years were spent at Franklin Court Assisted Living, where she was a kind and loving friend to all.

Janet was the last surviving sister of four: The late Barbara MacGregor, Arlene Smith and Dorothy Tyler.

Janet's son and daughter, Peter Crawford Williams and Heidi Novak, both passed before her. She leaves her granddaughters, Allysen Williams Callery of Bristol, Shaun Williams in Illinois, Amy Novak Hedlund and James Andrew Novak, both of Massachusetts; and many great-grandchildren including Ava Callery, Todd Scorpio, Matthew Hedlund, Amanda Hedlund, Dylan Farley and Brooke Farley.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bristol Animal Shelter, 10 Minturn Farm Road, Bristol RI 02809.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15 at The First Congregational Church in Bristol, presided over by Pastor Burton Bagby-Grose.
