Joan E. (Harrison) Bennett, 76, of Warren, died peacefully at home on Monday, June 12, 2017. She was the wife of the late George Bennett.

Joan was born in Providence, a daughter of the late Raymond P. and Josephine A. (Degnan) Harrison.

She had worked for the Providence Housing Authority and also HUD for more than 30 years before retiring. She was a graduate of St. Xavier High School in Providence.

A Warren resident since 1965, coming from Providence, Mrs. Bennett enjoyed coloring and traveling with her late husband, especially to Ogunquit, Maine. She was previously active in bowling leagues at Dudek’s Bowling Alley. She loved to entertain and was a great hostess.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her German shepherd Sandy; and her nieces and nephews, Matthew Forman, Robert Barrus, Linda Chapman, Lori Barrus and Lisa Barrus. She was the sister of the late Josephine Barrus and the aunt of the late Raymond Harrison.

Her funeral will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 17, from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St. Burial will follow in the South Burial Ground.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Saturday morning from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
