John A. Owen, 77, of Westport, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia M. (Hadley) Owen.
Born in Fall River, son of the late James J. and Noreen (Chippendale) Owen, he grew up in Fall River prior to moving to Westport in 1969. He was a school teacher for the Johnston, RI school system.
Mr. Owen was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport, and he served on the Shellfish Advisory Board for the Town of Westport. An avid fisherman and hunter, he loved the outdoors. He also coached his sons’ baseball teams for many years.
Including his wife, survivors include two sons, Thomas M. Owen and his wife Michelle of Fall River, and Timothy J. Owen and his wife Jennifer of Bridgewater; a brother, Francis Owen of Little Compton; a sister, Mary Manning of Arizona; two grandsons, Samuel and Benjamin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late James Owen.
Memorial Mass, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Wednesday, November 28, at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10 a.m.
Memorial Visitation will be Tuesday, November 27, at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport from 5-7 p.m.
Interment will be private.
