John Giacomini, 97, of Barrington

John Giacomini, 97, a resident of the Grafton County Nursing Home in Haverhill, NH, formerly of Vermont and Barrington, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Cataldo Giacomini and Filomena (Natalizia) Giacomini. He was the husband of the late Viola (Lombardi) Giacomini and the late Helen (DiOrio) Giacomini.

A resident of Barrington for over 60 years, Mr. Giacomini was a long time employee with the maintenance department of Barrington Public Schools. After retirement from the school department, he enjoyed working at the Temple Habonim in Barrington. John was a communicant of Holy Angels Church.  

He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving as a ground controller during World War II.  

Mr. Giacomini is survived by his daughter, Nancy Martin and her husband, Dan, of Vermont, two sons, Robert Giacomini of Georgia and John Giacomini and John’s wife Rosemary of Riverside. He leaves his sister, Anna Giacomini. Also surviving him are three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  

He was the brother of the late, Mary Assaiante, Felicia DelPadre. Frank and Angelo Giacomini.

A graveside service will be held at the Lime Kiln Cemetery in Newbury, Vermont in the spring.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
