He was the husband of Letitia (Morrison) Carter; father of Kathy Carter Martinez, John S. Carter lll, Pam Carter and Elisabeth Carter; and grandfather of Julia Martinez, Maggie Martinez Foote, John S. Carter lV, and Liam Carter Rowe.
