John V. Carreiro, 76, Westport

John V. "Jack Dog" Carreiro, 76, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late John A. and Rita L. (Carey) Carreiro.

Mr. Carreiro was born in Fall River and had been a longtime resident of Westport. He was a graduate of Somerset High School and was inducted into the Somerset Athletic Hall of Fame. He went on to graduate from Bridgeton Academy in Maine.

A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a union pipefitter for the Local 51 Plumbers and Pipefitters and was a member for over 50 years. Between his union jobs, Mr. Carreiro also worked as a welder, on commercial fishing boats and drove trucks.

Survivors include his son, David A. Carreiro of Westport; his brother, William T. Carreiro and his wife Anne of New Jersey; his sister, Louise E. Berube and her husband Pete of North Carolina; a granddaughter, Jessica B. Carreiro; his former wife, Rosalie (Bouchard) Carreiro; along with many nieces and nephews.

Memorial calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be Sunday, September 16, at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, from 3-5:30 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., a Celebration of Life will begin with the Carreiro family sharing some words of remembrance and they invite all who will be present at that time to do the same.

Interment will be private.
