Joseph R. Ferreira, 90, of Bristol

Joseph R. Ferreira, 90, of Cross Street, Bristol, passed away on March 16, 2018, at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the husband of Peggy (Studdard) Ferreira.   

Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Constantino and Amelia (Castro) Ferreira. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Robert Ferreira of Bristol and Donna Smith and her husband Matthew of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, as well as his brother, Edward Ferreira.

He was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School and received an Associate’s Degree from the Chicago Conservatory of Music. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a cartographer for the U.S. Dept. of Defense for 32 years. He also worked for Bristol Dept. of Public Works for five years before retiring.  

Mr. Ferreira loved his music and was a member of the Portuguese Independent Band Club, serving as President and Treasurer. He also played coronet in the Jimmy Martin Orchestra.

He served as President of the Bristol County Lions and was a member of the Bristol County Elks and the Bristol 4th of July Committee. An avid sailor, he owned an O’Day 22 and was a member of the Bristol Yacht Club.

His funeral services were held March 20 at the George Lima Funeral Home. Burial followed in North Burial Ground.
