Karen (Murphy) Brunelli, 63, of Bristol passed peacefully in her sleep on January 15, 2016. She was the daughter of the late James and Ellen (Campbell) Murphy.  She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Albert V. Brunelli, Jr. and her two children, Meghan and Marc Brunelli, all of Bristol; as well as a brother, Kevin Murphy, who currently resides in Louisiana.

Karen graduated from Barrington High School in 1970. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Rhode Island and furthered her studies at the Community College of Rhode Island where she earned an Associate in Science degree in nursing.  For 28 years, Karen loved working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence. She was a patron of the arts and enjoyed attending the theater and live musical performances. Karen travelled extensively throughout Europe and the Caribbean, but her most recent trip was to Nashville to participate in a charity 5K event.

To honor Karen’s passion for life, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please take out a loved one and celebrate time together. A scholarship fund is being created in her name to assist future nursing students. Contributions may be made directly to CCRI Foundation, 1762 Louisquisset Pike, Lincoln RI 02865, with the memo that it is for the Karen Brunelli Nursing Scholarship.

Calling hours are Friday, January 22, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street in Bristol.
