Latin dance night in Portsmouth

This Saturday, Common Fence Music present their first-ever Valentine's Latin Dance Night with Robertico Arias y Su Alebreke at their Portsmouth Mainstage. Leading the live seven-piece ensemble is Dominican Latin percussionist, vocalist and bandleader Luis “Robertico” Arias, who has been performing professionally since his teens. He and his band Alebreke have become Rhode Island institutions with their energy-filled performances of salsa, bachata, cha cha and merengue. Audience members are invited to enjoy for a preshow salsa lesson with FloorTime studios dance instructor Sara Barker from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. The lesson is free with admission.

WHERE: Common Fence Point Hall, 933 Anthony Road, Portsmouth
WHEN: Doors open at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
