Leslie E. Malone, 93, of Little Compton, died on December 5, 2017, in Fall River. “Les” was born on November 19, 1924, in Malden, Mass., the son of the late Leslie and Maude (Collins) Malone.
After entering the US Army in 1943, Les landed on the beach in the invasion of Normandy, France, and fought his way across Europe with the 110th AAA Bn., Battery B. He received multiple Battle Stars for participation in all of the major battles in the European Theater of Operations: Normandy, N. France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was one of the first American soldiers to enter Paris at its liberation.
After the war, Leslie married Helen (Ambrozik), his beloved wife of 63 years, and enjoyed a long career as a senior accountant for USM Corp. in Beverly, Mass. Les and Helen moved to Little Compton upon retirement in 1991 to be near family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, brother Frank, and sisters Elaine, Bernice and Lorraine.
He is survived by his son, Robert (Mary) of Little Compton; brother, Jack Kemp, and sister, Constance Sweeney (Jack), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service was held Saturday, Dec. 9, at Fern Acres Funeral Home, Little Compton, and he was buried with Military Honors at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery in Little Compton.
