Letter: Alternative budget reveals hypocrisy of some

To the editor:

I just read that Joan Chabot, Randy Lebeau, Sally Black and Jerome Larkin have filled a petition to put a second budget option on the ballot for the voters of the Financial Town Referendum.  Keep in mind that these are the same people who for years have told us to support the Budget Committee, because "they do the research: due diligence.” What changed this year that made them go against their own advise?

We elected a Budget Committee and they did their job. It seems the people who preach the virtue of  our elected Budget Committee only wanted more money out of our pockets. Now that we have a good mix on the Budget Committee they put in a second budget asking for more money. Well I will live and learn, but never fall for the lies these people use to raise taxes. I agree with every cut, and will be supporting budget #1 this year.

If I learned anything serving on the Budget Committee and Town Council, it is that people like Tiverton the way it is. They reject commercial development that would add to the tax base. So a small town needs a small government — vote for budget #1.

See you at the polls May 20.
