Letter: Another way to further protect our students and teachers

To the editor:

Barrington seems to be a comparatively peaceful place to be. Meaning we do not have the high anxiety situations that a lot of other communities have to deal with every day. That does not mean that terrible things might not take place here in Barrington with the world as it is now.

Having said that, could there be a way to have various officers on duty at each of the schools on a revolving duty schedule throughout the weeks and months? No one officer or officers would be on “school protection” duties every week just for some weeks or days or however it is set up that would include all officers on their normal schedules.

The “school protection” would just be added to normal duties so that some weeks for an officer would be a normal assigned schedule and a possible one week assigned to the schools on a rotating basis.

When the school doors were locked when students were arriving late I was thinking that this could also be designed to keep those inside safe. But that would be problematic as there are recesses and other things going on during the school day.
