Letter: As we mourn Matthew Harris, so many to thank for their support

To the editor:
Words cannot adequately express our gratefulness for the outpouring of love and support for our family during this most difficult time. Matthew loved his fire department brotherhood and the Warren community. The incredible numbers of people at the calling hours and the funeral made it very apparent that this community felt the same way about him. While we as a family are mourning, we also know that so many of you are deeply grieving the loss of Matthew’s daily presence right along with us so our prayers are with you as well.
We would especially like to thank Father Doug Grant for going above and beyond in allowing us to use St. Mary of the Bay Church for Matt’s funeral service.
We would also like to thank:
The Warren Police Department
Warren Fire Chief James Sousa, all the Warren fire companies, and Rescue that have been so helpful to us
Matt’s Beloved Engine 5
All of the fire companies from Rhode Island, Massachusetts and other locations that were represented at the calling hours and the funeral.
Smith Funeral & Memorial Services
Mike Mullen and Ron Burnett, ministers of Fall River Church of Christ.
Perella’s Ristorante
Balasco’s Pizzeria
The Warren Soccer Club
Mark Smiley for the beautiful video post on YouTube.
Retired Fire Chief Al Gallinelli for helping Matt live his dream.
Matthew’s many friends.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
