Letter: Bulgarmarsh boozers revealed by roadside litter

To the editor:

On Saturday, Nov. 21, eight members of the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club spent three hours picking litter on Fish Road.

The Fish Road 1.1 mile stretch from Bulgarmarsh Road to Route 24 is victim to trash from coffee cups to whiskey bottles. There is no quicker way to blot beauty than to leave a litter trail.

Here is a brief scorecard of the trash we found:

Twenty two 30-gallon trash bags of assorted garbage that included 73 whiskey nip bottles, two pint whiskey bottles, three wine bottles, a pint of homemade pickled carrots, four hub caps, many plastic food containers and empty cigarette packs and butts. In one small spot there were four worn tires, a large rug, old TV and a chair. Luckily the rug did not contain a body.

The story here may be that too many people have bad habits like throwing their butts out vehicle windows, drinking while driving and not caring for their community.

Unfortunately, litter will be back on the road and we could only dent a small section of the community roads.

Frustrating to say the least— beauty destroyed by uncaring people.

Sincerely,

Robert Marra
