Letter: Busy times ahead for Tiverton Arts Council

To the editor:

The Tiverton Arts Council invites everyone to come to the Tiverton Town Hall and enjoy the lovely annual exhibit of Madeleine Diogenes’ Senior Watercolor Class — So much talent!

We look forward to hosting a photo exhibit in September/October featuring Rick Barrette and town Tax Assessor David Robert, two talented local artists with a unique ability to capture the local scene.

The Arts Council thanks Manny Fontes and Phil Ferreira, two members of the Tiverton town team. Their hard work and keen perception in hanging the art collections enables us to better enjoy the displays. Thank you for going above and beyond.

We look forward to the summer season. We are planning to install a colorful piano at the Tiverton Recreation site at the Bulgamarsh Gazebo. We are following the example of some cities such as Boston and Berlin where there are pianos with a “Play Me” sign at various locations. We are asking anyone with an old spinet piano to please donate it to us. It will be picked up. Our project requires two that will be colorfully painted. The goal is to introduce them during the “Celebrate Tiverton” festivities at the end of July.

We recently provided to the Town Hall Council Chamber a ceiling-mounted projector and automatic screen using funds donated to the Arts Council by Tiverton Power, Newport Bank and Bay Coast Bank. The Arts Council is grateful for their generous donations.

The Arts Council is planning an annual “Film Festival” which will make use of the screen and projector. We encourage the younger members of the community to participate in this technological form of artistic expression. The equipment is also available for use by other groups using the Council Chamber.

The Arts Council is eager to participate in activities sponsored by other organizations in Tiverton.

We would like to remind everyone to stop by Town Hall and view the current watercolor exhibit.
