Letter: Casino offers rare opportunity for Tiverton

I’m writing in response to all the negative letters regarding the plan for a downsized casino on the outskirts of our town. First I’d like to ask the residents a few questions …

1. Are you a parent who voted for school salary increases?

2. Are you a parent who voted for the new library?

3. Are you a taxpayer trying to keep taxes down?

4. Are you a resident who would like to keep and improve town services?

If you answered “yes” then we need to join together and fight to give this plan a chance. We are fortunate to have this development which isn’t a 38 Studios needing our money to fund it.

I’d like to add the fact that one of the major anti-casino spokesmen isn’t a resident of our town. The bombardment of negative comments is unnecessary. One has to ask, “Why doth thou protest so much?”

Regarding the guest speaker from Connecticut, a thought passed my mind — is he trying to protect Tiverton or Connecticut? If we get the casino then the four large buses leaving the Fall River shopping center 365 days a year won’t be needed.

Our town is struggling now and we need to be proactive to get jobs and funds into our economy. You don’t have to like playing cards or slot machines to enjoy then positive benefits that come with the entire development. We may never get an opportunity like this again, so please keep an open mind and vote yes on Question 1.
